Well, well, well… what do we have here then!
A new signing? At Arsenal? Are my eyes playing tricks on me?
Gabriel Martinelli is the first (hopefully of many) through the door this summer and joins us from Brazilian side Ituano for around £6m.
It remains to be seen whether the 18-year-old will come straight into the first-team picture or will cut his teeth with the U23 squad initially.
It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see Martinelli involved with the first-team to some extent. This time last year we all thought Guendouzi would only have a bit-part role but he ended up playing over 40 games for us last season. If this lad can come into the side and have anything close to the impact Guendouzi had then that will be good enough for me!
With the exception of Gilberto and to a lesser degree Edu and Eduardo, Brazilians have never really cut it for us; Denilson, Santos and ‘the Beast’ Baptista all still haunt my dreams.
