Tottenham are stepping up their attempts to land Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is yet to make a signing this summer and has earmarked Grealish as the first new arrival of the close season.

The playmaker impressed for Aston Villa in the Championship last season, making 27 appearances as the Midlands club reached the play-off final.

He is rated as one of the best young talents outside the Premier League but is available at a knockdown price due to Villa’s serious financial troubles.

Villa boss Steve Bruce admitted earlier this month that the 22-year-old’s exit this summer was inevitable.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham now hope to wrap up a deal for Grealish this week.

Spurs head to Los Angeles on Sunday to take part in the International Champions Cup and Pochettino is eager to have Grealish on the plane.

Villa were reportedly asking for £40million for the England Under-21 international but Spurs hope to secure his signature for half that amount.

Liverpool were also eyeing the young midfielder but did not follow up their interest, leaving their league rivals clear to pounce.
