A group of bystanders rushed to save two people trapped beneath a car after it vaulted a sidewalk in Washington D.C. – lifting the vehicle up to free the victims, dramatic video shows.

A cab driver who was parked near Tuesday’s two-vehicle crash at 9th Street and New York Avenue in captured the rescue on his dashcam, showing roughly a dozen witnesses scurrying to pick up a silver Chevy Malibu after it crashed into a truck and went onto the sidewalk, WJLA reports.

The passengers, including a young boy and a woman, stumbled out of the wrecked vehicle as bystanders rushed over to help the pinned victims. Cab driver Ephrem Engdashet called 911, but sprinted over to the car to help before an operator could pick up.

“I was, like, shocked,” Engdashet told the station. “I was in my car, you know, just for maybe 10, 15 seconds, then they were asking like ‘Help, help, help.’”

Dio King, another good Samaritan who helped pick up the car, said he was working nearby when he heard a loud crash and sprang into action.

“Thirteen or 14 of us ran over and just picked up the car and we just pulled it off of them, pulled it to the side,” King told the station.

Four people were hospitalized with serious injuries following the crash. No one inside the Chevy Malibu was hurt, police said.

Cops said it appeared to be an accident and no violations were issued.
