He joined the club in 2017 and kept 19 clean sheets last season
Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has signed a new contract keeping him with the club until the summer of 2021 at least.
Etheridge, 28, joined the club last summer from Walsall and immediately established himself as the number one, playing in all but one of Cardiff’s Championship matches and keeping an impressive 19 clean sheets as they secured promotion to the Premier League.
Etheridge told Cardiff City TV: “The club has been great to me since I started. We had a fantastic year last year and it’s been great to continue that and extend my deal.”
The Philippines international cannot wait for his debut season in the Premier League. “Every game is going to be a great experience – all of them,” he said. “Of course, you’ve got Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge… I could go on and on.
“But I’m looking forward to the first game of the season, then coming back here for a full house against Newcastle. I can’t wait.”
Chief executive Ken Choo said of Etheridge, who began his career with Fulham: “We are delighted to see another of our key performers from the 2017/18 campaign commit his future to the club.
“We look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a player and giving his all for the Bluebirds.”
Etheridge will have tough competition for the number one jersey as Cardiff also signed QPR keeper Alex Smithies.
