The 18-year-old centre-back is set to become new boss Paul Hurst’s first signing at Portman Road.
Ipswich Town is are close to finalising a season-long loan deal for Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah.
The centre-back is set to become new boss Paul Hurst’s first signing at Portman Road.
The 18-year-old is one of the brightest talents in the Chelsea academy but has yet to feature for the first team.
Hurst said: “I’ll be open with you, he’s the player I’m talking about.
“We’re just trying to finalise a few things and then hopefully, fingers crossed, no last minute hiccups, he can be part of the squad and the first signing.”
He added: “ He’s a very good player, very highly thought of, someone that in whichever position he’s in he’s very comfortable on the ball.
“Speaking to him, he sees the importance of this loan. If we do managed to secure that signing we’ll have fought off quite a bit of competition for him, so I think he’ll be a great addition.”
Chalobah signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in June 2016, committing himself the the Blues until the end of 2018/19.
He has not yet made a senior appearance for Chelsea, but is just short of 100 matches at various youth levels.
He is the brother of former Chelsea wonderkid Nathaniel, who currently plays for Watford.
