The city is on lockdown, but love must find a way. In the face of the pandemic, many people have been separated from loved ones for months—some even for an entire year. Sadly, we will never get this time back. We can’t rewind or fast forward, so we must live in the present. Although it may be difficult and painful to do so, we need to move forward with our lives. With her newest single, “City On Lockdown,” singer-songwriter Aiya Kareem shows us how she has done just that. In this honest and heartfelt song, she reflects on how quarantine has made her
realize just how important it is to see those whom you care about—and to really appreciate the time you have together.
ABOUT AIYA KAREEM
Aiya Kareem, a soulful singer/songwriter hailing from Haarlem, Netherlands, was destined to be an entertainer. Aiya began taking ballet and music lessons at the tender age of four, and by ten she had written her first piece of poetry. She grew up in a creative family where both her father, a filmmaker, and uncle, a performer on Sesame Street, were huge inspirations. Soft-spoken yet sensual, Aiya Kareem fuses soulful melodies with hip-hop rhythms and creative lyrics. Drawing inspiration from icons like Michael Jackson and Bob Marley, who told personal stories through music has allowed Aiya Kareem to release some of the emotions she had been holding onto for years.
