As, a young man Mr. Hammond grew up in Yuma, AZ. Then later relocated to Mohave Valley, Az of where he currently resides. Larry, at a young age learned about bird singing from Hubert McCord and many Elders which include Delphina Kumathee Mills Yurogoen, The late Llewelyn and Betty Barrackman. The late Donaldson Armstrong, The late Marilyn “Whailia” Jackson. He is one of the youngest bird singers that travels and utilizes his traditional gift and culture.

Today, our importance for young bird singers from the River tribes is needed. Our lead singers are aging will one day start their journey to the happy hunting ground.

We celebrate Larry for his teaching, friendships, spiritual guidance and all he has to offer to the people as he says- “When you become a singer you belong to the people”.
