Seneca Falls, NY State – On July 9, 2018 www.SuperwomanCampaign.org will host a live history re-enactment to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the Suffragist Tea Party that started a revolution. “I Am a Superwoman” promotes a powerful message of recalibration and re-education for our next generation.
On July 9, 1848, five key members of the American women’s suffrage movement met for tea in Waterloo, New York: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Martha Wright, Mary Ann McClintock, and hostess Jane Hunt. Over tea, these women expressed their views about the lack of basic Women’s Rights and just ten days joined 300 other people at the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Fall for what would become the first women’s rights conference in the western world. Just two days later a total of 68 women and 32 men signed the Declaration of Sentiments, a document that included an amended quote from the Declaration of Independence. They added two controversial words (and women) to the phrase “We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal”. The local newspaper the Oneida Whig called it “The most shocking & unnatural event ever recorded in the history of Womanity!” The women did not give up, and they prevailed.
“This movement focuses on the powerful mentality of individual accountability & personal responsibility. It’s about the need to recalibrate the societal mindset to allow us to move forward and create a better world for our community and for the next generation,” says Commander Celeste Gleave, Founder of SHEROES United and Producer of “I Am a Superwoman”.
The iconic 1848 live history re-enactment will be held at the original venue, the Wesleyan Chapel, on the grounds of the Women’s Right’s National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, NY State. The event will host male and female dignitaries, victors and celebrities and will formally introduce a Collective Personal Bill of Rights that will incorporate contributions from women (and the men who love them) from many sectors of the population. The program of events will be live streamed on social media.
A powerful and interactive social media video challenge will also be launched on the same day that will encourage people from all around the world to participate in the global celebration of equality and empowerment.
“One hundred & seventy years-ago five incredible women spoke out and then for many years continued to fight for change. It all started with tea and now it’s up to us to carry it through to the end. This movement is about reconnecting to our core values as a community. It’s about teaching our children to honor the true meaning of ‘Tea’ words,” says Sue Melke, Founder & Producer of “I Am a Superwoman”.
