Lawyers spar over Stormy Daniels interview

Lawyers for a porn star and President Trump’s personal attorney on Monday sparred over Stormy Daniels’ claims she had a sexual relationship with the president and was threatened with physical harm to keep it quiet.

Daniels, 39, in an interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” on Sunday, said an unknown man approached her in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011 to warn her not to talk about a sexual affair she said she had with Trump after meeting him at a golf tournament in 2006.

“A guy walked up on me and said to me, ‘ Leave Trump alone. Forget the story. ‘ And then he leaned around and looked at my daughter and said, ‘ That’s a beautiful little girl. It’d be a shame if something happened to her mom.’ And then he was gone,” she said on the CBS show.

Her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, said the warning had to come from somebody known to Trump.

“There’s no other place for it to come from. …There’s only one other place where it could have come from and that threat was terrifying for my client,” he said Monday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Asked if Daniels – whose real name is Stephanie Clifford – told somebody about the threat or informed the police, Avenatti said she didn’t.

“She was scared. No,” he said.

A lawyer for Michael Cohen, the longtime Trump attorney who paid Daniels $130,000 weeks before the 2016 presidential election as part of a nondisclosure agreement, said

“the lying is all over that piece. ”

“We don’t have to go further than the piece to see the lying, the inconsistencies, the fact that she said nothing happened and now she says something happened.

She’s in it for the money. And Michael Avenatti is in it for all the press and money also, ” he said during an appearance later on “Good Morning America.”

He challenged the assertion that Daniels was too afraid to go to the police after being threatened.

“Twelve years ago somebody approaches her in a parking lot, and what does she do? She doesn’t go to the police. She goes to her Pilates class. That’s ridiculous,” he said.

Speaking about a cease-and-desist order from Brent Blakely – another of Cohen’s lawyers – after Daniels’ interview, Avenatti said more evidence of the affair will come out and asked why the president has been mum on the allegations.

“He can tweet on every other subject known to mankind but for some reason he can’t come out and deny the affair ?” Avenatti said. “He can’t come out and deny the existence of agreement and his knowledge of it? And he can’t come out and deny the $ 130, 000 payment? Why is that? ” he said.

Schwartz pooh-poohed Daniels’ accusations.

“An affair? She spent four hours on the couch with him, and then they have sex one time, according to what she says,” he told ABC. “Mr. Trump denies it. But who cares? It happened 12 years ago. ”

He said Cohen will continue to pursue what he says is the $20 million she owes for every time she talked about the alleged affair in violation of the agreement.

“A contract is a contract. We live by contracts. You can’t just break a contract without there being consequences,” Schwartz said. “Michael Avenattti said that’s a threat. By enforcing a damages clause in a contact, that’s not a threat. ”

Avenatti said the agreement that Daniels signed is invalid because it wasn’t signed by Trump, who was identified in the legal papers as David Dennison.
