The Reds keeper was making his first appearance for the club since his calamitous performance during the Champions League final
Liverpool fans gave Loris Karius a standing ovation before they faced Chester in a pre-season friendly.
The German shot-stopper, who has not featured for the club since the Champions League final, kept a clean sheet for the Reds before being withdrawn at half-time.
Back in May, the German was subject to a torrent of abuse after his mistakes cost Liverpool the chance to win their first Champions League trophy since 2005.
Although it was later revealed he had concussion, Karius inexplicably gave the ball to Karim Benzema to tap into an empty net.
He followed that clanger up by dropping Gareth Bale’s shot into the back of his own net.
Although he has had reassurances from Jurgen Klopp and legend Steven Gerrard about his place in the team, there was a sense of uncertainty as to how the fans would react.
However, he needn’t have worried as he received a warm reception from the travelling Redmen and an outpouring of support online too.
