Liverpool FC transfer news: Nabil Fekir reveals he's 'not close' to joining Reds

Fekir scored 23 goals for Lyons this season

Nabil Fekir insists a move to Liverpool is ‘not close’ as speculation mounts over the Lyons playmaker’s future.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, beaten by Real Madrid in Saturday’s Champions League final, have recently been linked with a move for the 24-year-old France international, who captained the Ligue 1 side this season.

But Fekir told French television programme Telefoot on Sunday morning: “I’m not close to the Reds.

“There are talks with clubs. I will take time to reflect on things.”

Fekir’s comments follow those of Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas earlier this week which suggested the player could stay with the club despite appearing to bid farewell to their fans following the final game of the season.

“We simply know that teams are interested. His agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, has told us so,” Aulas told L’Equipe.

“There have been no discussions either with Nabil or with other clubs, so it’s very premature. He’s also hesitating about whether he wants to play in the Champions League with Lyon.”

Lyons finished third in Ligue 1 to secure a return to Europe’s top table next season.
