Fekir has been described as Liverpool’s no.1 target this summer transfer window
Liverpool have no chance of signing Nabil Fekir before the start of the World Cup.
That is the revelation made by Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas following reports that the Reds were closing in on the playmaker.
The Merseyside club, who were beaten in the Champions League final, are keen to get their business done early this summer and have already landed Fabinho from Monaco.
Fekir has been described as their No.1 target and it had been reported that a deal to sign the France international was on the verge of completion.
But now Aulas has given an update on the situation – and it does not make good reading for Liverpool fans hopeful of an imminent arrival.
“The deal is at a standstill. Nothing has happened,” he told the club’s official website.
“The whole thing will certainly not be completed during the World Cup, and I don’t think anything will change before it.
“We haven’t set a starting price because we haven’t discussed that yet.”
