Jose Mourinho unable to convince Inter to let ‘non-transferable’ Slovakian centre-back go despite mammoth bid
Manchester United look set to miss out on Milan Skriniar this summer after Inter Milan rejected a £57million bid for the Slovakian, according to reports.
The 23-year-old centre-back is deemed ‘non-transferable’ by the Serie A club, who are looking to retain the side that last season brought them back into the Champions League after six years away.
United boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign a centre-back this summer but any move for Skriniar now appears dead after the £57m deal, which would have been the second-highest ever for a defender, was rejected.
Mourinho bought Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof in his first two summers at Old Trafford but neither made the position their own and combined for just 24 league starts last season.
Long-serving English duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were preferred in the second half of 2017/18 but Smalling could now be on his way to West Ham.
