The Red Devils are ready to pounce after their bitter rivals let him slip through their fingers
Manchester United have reportedly made an offer for Lyon’s attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir.
The Frenchman came within a hair’s breadth of signing for United’s bitter Premier League rivals Liverpool prior to the 2018 World Cup.
The 24-year-old had already agreed personal terms and chosen the shirt number he was going to wear at Anfield, but the move collapsed after the player underwent a medical with the Reds.
It was reported earlier this week that Lyon’s president had been talking to Manchester United who were now expressing an interest in Fekir and now, according to Le Progres, an official bid has been received.
Le Progres claim the Reds cited Fekir’s knee cartilage problem as the reason for reducing their bid, a move which prompted Lyon to put out the following statement on June 9.
“Olympique Lyonnais informs that the negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and that Olympique Lyonnais has decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight.
“Although the club Liverpool has been the priority of a possible transfer of Nabil, Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of [our] captain who is a leading rookie for 2018/2019 during which the club will play the Champions League.”
