Klopp initially backed Karius after his nightmare performance in the Champions League final but now the goalkeeper seems to be heading for an Anfield exit

Jurgen Klopp has defended his U-turn regarding goalkeeper Loris Karius who is edging closer to an Anfield exit.

The 25-year-old’s future at the club appears to be over following the £67million arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma last summer.

Besiktas is the likely destination for Karius after the Turkish side appeared to confirm the £9.5m signing on their official Twitter account.

Karius was at fault for two goals during Liverpool’s 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May, but it was implied the club would give him another chance.

He also made a series some mistakes during Liverpool’s pre-season game against Tranmere as well as their International Champions Cup defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Brighton, Klopp insisted that “things in football change.”

The Liverpool manager said: “There’s nothing new about Loris.

“If it happens that’s how it goes in football, these things can happen.

“As a manager you don’t usually need much time between one game and another to get the sack, that’s how things can change.

“Things in football change.”
