With Mauricio Pochettino’s future now secure, Tottenham can begin to focus on building their team for next season.
Spurs have fluctuated between second and third place finishes in the past three seasons, remarkably finishing behind five entirely different clubs during that time.
Having nailed himself down a new five-year deal, Pochettino’s main aim will undoubtedly be to take Tottenham to that next (trophy-winning) level.
The signings they have been linked with so far are a mixed bag in that respect, but make for an interesting prospective XI.
Scroll down to see how Tottenham could line up in 2018/19.
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris
You can never predict a transfer window, but Spurs’ number one will almost certainly remain between the sticks next season.
Defenders: Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Kieran Trippier
With Toby Alderweireld seemingly on the way out and Danny Rose expected to follow him, Tottenham will need a slight defensive reshuffle this season. While Pochettino has already adjusted to life without the Belgian centre-back, a replacement would be needed for Rose. Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon has burst onto the scene with his performances in 2017/18 and could be an ideal fit.
Defensive Midfielders: Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier
Tottenham already have four solid defensive midfielders (well… three and Moussa Sissoko) and would likely rotate Dembele and Dier with Victor Wanyama next season, as they did in the 2017/18 campaign.
Attacking Midfielders: Anthony Martial (Manchester United), Christian Eriksen, Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)
If Spurs were to secure the signings of Martial and Zaha, then we would inevitably see some rotation among their attacking midfield three. As it stands here, Dele Alli and Heung-min Son have been left out of the side, but both could easily slot back in due to the positional versatility of all five men. Perhaps this is the squad depth that Pochettino requires if he wants his team competing on all fronts in 2018/19.
Forward: Harry Kane
If Tottenham have any real ambitions of rising above their current level, then they will have to hold onto Kane. Thankfully it looks as though they will do that and he will stick around to lead the line at the new stadium next season.
