President Trump on Friday accused the “Fake News Media” of hitting him “at every new front imaginable” about a new tell-all book out of frustration that claims of collusion with Russia are a “total hoax.”
“Well, now that collusion with Russia is proving to be a total hoax and the only collusion is with Hillary Clinton and the FBI/Russia, the Fake News Media (Mainstream) and this phony new book are hitting out at every new front imaginable,” Trump said in a tweet.
“They should try winning an election. Sad!” he added.
The White House has been buffeted by unflattering anecdotes culled from Michael Wolff’s new exposé, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” which characterizes the president as a simpleton with diminishing mental faculties.
Trump and his aides have attacked Wolff’s journalistic credibility and said the book is replete with falsehoods.
On Friday, Trump cheered the news that a billionaire conservative donor who bankrolled former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon’s political career has cut ties with him after he was quoted in the book.
“The Mercer Family recently dumped the leaker known as Sloppy Steve Bannon. Smart!” Trump tweeted about Rebekah Mercer and her family.
The president and his team are part of a sweeping investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and congressional committees looking at Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with Russia.
The White House has repeatedly denied collusion and labeled the Mueller probe a “witch hunt.”
Meanwhile, the Justice Department is launching another probe into Clinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of state, The Daily Beast reported Thursday.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions hopes to uncover new details on how Clinton and her aides handled classified material, the outlet reported, citing a source close to the former Alabama senator.
The new probe was prompted by Trump’s repeated calls for another FBI probe into “Crooked Hillary,” the source said.
Trump began his daily tweetstorm Friday by touting the Dow’s record-breaking rise above 25,000 on Thursday.
“Dow goes from 18,589 on November 9, 2016, to 25,075 today, for a new all-time Record. Jumped 1000 points in last 5 weeks, Record fastest 1000 point move in history,” he tweeted.
“This is all about the Make America Great Again agenda! Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Six trillion dollars in value created!”
