Maurizio Sarri is reportedly keen on bringing the glovesman to Stamford Bridge having worked with him at Napoli
Chelsea will make a formal bid for ex-Liverpool star Pepe Reina on Thursday.
Reina, the goalkeeper, was linked with a shock move to Stamford Bridge earlier this week, despite only joining Milan on a free transfer at the beginning of the month.
The 35-year-old penned a three-year deal with the Rossoneri after leaving Napoli – where he played under Maurizio Sarri, the new Chelsea manager – at the expiration of his contract at the end of last season.
However, the Spain international could leave the Giuseppe Meazza just days after signing for Milan, with Chelsea set to make a formal approach for the keeper.
According to Tuttosport, Blues officials have travelled to Milan to submit a bid for Reina, which is said to be worth around £5million (€6m).
Milan are said to be considering cashing in on Reina, knowing they will make a hefty profit on the player signed for nothing less than a month ago.
Chelsea have already brought one goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge this summer, with former England international Rob Green confirmed as the west London club’s second summer signing, after midfielder Jorginho, on Thursday morning.
Green, who penned a one-year deal with the Blues after leaving Huddersfield at the end of last season, will act as understudy to Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero, though doubts remain about the former’s future, with Real Madrid hoping to take him back to Spain this summer.
